In 2004, Jean Paul Gaultier, the newly appointed Creative Director of Hermès directed his focus to design rather than the house's well-known craftsmanship and materials. His runway shows presented some of the most memorable and iconic Hermès bags of today, one of them being the Shoulder Birkin 42.
